Autumn Notes

Orange mist dawn rays strike the eyelash sweeping down across the eye
Light enacts scenes of fleeting violence in reflections spread across the wall

The television is broken and strewn pieces flood across the living room carpet
He is intent on making connections with the wires and sound

A kitchen across the road burns with flavour and taste
the smell is turning up the corners of the roof in disapproval

A chatty fly’s tentative landing on the food we left out, fussy thing
Its feet stroke a cube of sugar as it does its ancient work

In a world away the trees let go their clothing onto the dry earth
as vegetables hibernate and birds fall from the sky
