The Wake

It takes a lifetime to learn to be a ghost
How to haunt requires reading of the subtle literariness
a way of assessing souls and basking in their simple light.

It takes years to get under the skin
when you are immaterial
and the skin is protection from arrows
they break but
Cupid’s eyes flay the ground.

Learning to be measured, learning when to act like a servant
and when to suddenly take the wheel
are we inclined to weave fingers around pain
are we truly defined by sentence?

or do our celebrations of the ecstatic verdant empire
remain invisible? Beyond the measures of astringency
foisted upon the world without her permission.
